The Superintendent Minister's Message

Welcome to the website of the Hastings, Bexhill and Rye Methodist Circuit

We are a diverse Circuit with large town Churches and small country Chapels. Our Churches have a wide variety of activities. At all of them you can be assured of a warm welcome.

This is an exciting place to be. Battle are moving forward with their building project which is an exciting development as they launch out in faith to develop their witness on a new site. The town centre Churches in Hastings and St Leonards are talking about what mission and ministry means to them. Our country Chapels are looking at their future and making their premises accommodating for their mission to their communities. One had its foundation stone laid by Rev William and Mrs Booth before they founded the Salvation Army.

We have some significant youth work going on in various places. A ‘Thinking Outside The Box’ group meets regularly and in some of our Churches we have ‘Messy Church’. Some of our Churches have art groups and musical events. There are housegroups and prayer groups. We have an active Methodist Women in Britain group. Our Churches are involved ecumenically. And people from some of our Churches are involved in and support nationally known Christian Healing Centre locally.

As well as our Churches we have two Methodist Residential Homes, a Methodist County Primary School and a World Methodist Heritage Site where John Wesley preached his last Open Air Sermon. As a Circuit we seek to encourage Fairtrade. Life here is never dull and often quite exciting. You can read more of it in our magazine or calendar. You can always be assured of a warm welcome. Above all we trust that our communities are places where you can find the Lord himself, discover life being enriched and perhaps too that you have something to offer. Whether as a visitor to the area or an explorer in faith why not come along and see us.

Hastings, Bexhill and Rye Circuit Prayer for 2016-17

Journeying God, you promise to never leave us when we set out on new adventures. You give us Jesus who is the Way, to come with us and go before us. You send your Spirit to give us courage and peace to keep going when it feels too much.

Journeying God, our Circuit has many new adventures to celebrate, to pray for, and to offer when they feel a bit scary.

We pray for churches that have come together to form one new society; churches moving to new premises in the community; churches beginning ambitious mission focussed refurbishment schemes, and churches reaching out to the community through open doors, new forms of worship, friendship events and Messy Church.

We pray for churches seeking a way forward, wanting to be your people, but finding so many questions ahead which need answering and needing more energy than perhaps they have. For them we pray for courage and peace.

We pray for one another, our eleven communities, our Methodist School, our heritage centre at Winchelsea and our two Methodist Homes. We thank you God for the tremendous gifts and graces within our Circuit famly and for the spirit of optimism and confidence we are enjoying together.

Journeying God, you beckon us to adventures yet unknown. May we trust you this year as you lead us, challenge us, and bless us.
AMEN

Ian Pruden
